Austin Powwow 2023. The 30th Gathering At The Travis County Expo Center For Great Promise For American Indians.

The 30th Austin Powwow and American Indian Heritage Festival ran Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Travis County Expo Center, 7311 Decker Lane. Great Promise for American Indians hosted the day. Festival listings put general admission at $7. Texas Highways wrote that children 12 and under were free and that parking was free.
Foghorn News, writing after the date, said the Saturday invited more than 80 tribes from North and South America. Dancers were judged on dance and regalia. Women's categories that year included buckskin, cloth, northern traditional, jingle, and fancy shawl. Men's categories included traditional, straight, chicken, grass, and fancy.
The Daily Texan, on November 7, 2023, listed the Expo Center date under Native American Heritage Month and named the Native market and the food court. The public listing called it a family event. Drugs and alcohol were not permitted.

Wider holds sit on the tan arena floor, a curved line of dancers, a drum group, and the red Expo Center seats. Tighter holds sit on a 2023 beaded crown, a salmon shawl, a claw neckpiece, and a white rattle in a red shirt.
Who Hosted The Saturday
Great Promise for American Indians was founded in 1991 after Austin Native American members returned from the White House Conference on Native Americans. The group organized and incorporated in 1992 as a 501(c)(3). It later continued as the Native American Cultural Center. The physical address on the organization's site is 84 Robert T Martinez, Jr., Austin, Texas 78702.
The center's public mission includes sponsoring the annual Austin Powwow and Native American Heritage Festival. Texas Highways, writing in the 30th year, quoted executive director Robert Bass and put annual attendance near 15,000. City of Austin Cultural Arts and the Texas Commission on the Arts are named as public supporters.
