Beauty Changes Lives announced Shauntavia Ward of Aveda Institute, Austin, as the 2019 Sydell L. Miller Total Image Esthetics Student Scholarship winner. The foundation posted the award with the Arnold M. Miller Foundation scholarships at America's Beauty Show in Chicago. Ward and Matrix co-founder Sydell Miller both come from Cleveland.
The foundation story says Ward moved from Cleveland Clinic work as a secretary, then a registered nurse, then a nurse practitioner, into aesthetics school in Austin after an instructor asked her to apply. Two days before this application film, she broke her foot and still shot the piece, keeping the crutches off camera.
This is that scholarship entry. The on-screen card reads Shauntavia Ward. Schools and brands hire a short film when a winner and a room have to travel farther than the night itself.

Who Hired The Camera
Scholarship nights, schools, and small studios hire a short film when an application has to live on a foundation page and on the winner's own site. The brief here was Ward's entry: treatment-room work, daily care, and her voice.
Beauty Changes Lives quoted her on the application: when people cannot put their best face forward, they usually do not perform well. Dermascope later reprinted that line with the Cleveland-to-Austin path. The foundation also posted her advice to the next class: accept fear, use it as a catalyst, and replace it with excitement.
From The Treatment Room To The Studio
Ward completed the aesthetics program on June 1, 2019. Beauty Changes Lives wrote that she planned to open her spa Elemint on July 1, with facial treatments plus healthy beverages and dietary work. Community Impact reported the studio open on June 30, 2019, at 906 East Fifth Street, Suite 106, as Elemint Skin Health and Wellness Studio, a nurse-practitioner facial room with nontoxic care.

Movers and Makers later interviewed her as Shauntavia Ward of eleMINT. She described the move from emergency and family practice into a skin and wellbeing room, and placed the loft-level studio above the East Austin boutique ARO. The interview is later public record. What The Camera Held
On camera a brush lays a clay mask along a cheek. Later holds sit outdoors near water at dusk, then in a grocery case as a hand reaches for oranges beside pomelos. The cut stays with Ward's voice and the work of skin and daily care.
