Symphony Of Soul is an Austin 501(c)(3) that pays musicians to play for people who cannot get to a club. The organization's mission, as posted on its public about page, is live music in convalescent homes, hospitals, centers for the developmentally disabled, rehabilitation rooms, psychiatric and detention facilities, AIDS wards, and shelters. Sets run about thirty minutes to an hour. Rooms can be five people or fifty.
Leslie Hyland Rodgers started the work after her mother, in care at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, asked her to sing. The about page dates that bedside ask to May 2000 and quotes her mother: Les, I'm so terrified. I don't want to die. Would you sing to me? A nurse opened the door. Other patients stood in the hall. LinkedIn's company listing places Symphony of Soul Inc. as founded in 2000, with a mailing address at 3801 North Capital of Texas Highway in Austin.

Who Hired The Camera
Programs hire us when supporters need to hear why the music goes into those rooms. A donate page cannot show 150 dates. It can show the founder and the people who play.
KVUE later reported more than 150 free performances a year, including Dell Children's Medical Center, Austin Children's Shelter, and LifeWorks, with about 95 percent of donations going to pay the players. The station wrote that for every $100 donated, a musician could provide one hour of live music in a care center. Rodgers volunteered to run the nonprofit and also performed. KVUE said her mother survived that cancer chapter and was later living with Alzheimer's.
